Age-Adjusted Intentional Self-Harm Mortality Rate By County 2015

In 2013 the United States had suicide rate of 12.6 per 100,000 which equated to one suicide every 13 minutes. Suicide affects all age groups and according to the CDC suicide was the tenth leading cause of death in 2013.  Today’s map of the day shows the age-adjusted intentional self-harm mortality rate by county for the year of 2015. From the map we can see counties darkly shaded have a suicide rate as high as 70 per 100,000 population. Suicide is preventable thus maps like this allow public health offices to see which communities need interventions to help decrease suicide risk.
